The Making of Florida Slot Canyon 1

While shooting landscapes near the bluffs and ravines region of the Apalachicola River basin, I discovered a small creek that had eaten away at the limestone over time, creating an unusual slot canyon. After squeezing into the narrow canyon, I set up my tripod and, from a rather uncomfortable position, created the landscape image Florida Slot Canyon 1.

A slow shutter speed softened the water’s movement. I also utilized a method called focus stacking, where I take multiple images of the same scene, slightly changing the focus between each image. “Stacking” the series of images in post-production creates a greater depth of field than what’s possible from a single frame, which allowed as much of the slot canyon to be in focus as possible.
