Live Oak Plantation Road

Live Oak Plantation Road is a southern live oak tree-lined road in Tallahassee, Florida. It is a heavily-traveled road that runs east-west on the north side of Tallahassee and connects Thomasville Road on the east end to Meridian Road on the west end.

Live Oak Plantation Road is a paved road with large, beautiful homes on either side. Side roads lead further into neighborhoods and Timberlane School Road leads past Timberlane Ravine Park, under Interstate 10, and on to Timberlane Road.

The Making of the Live Oak Plantation Road 2 Image

One day during the springtime, I saw that recent rains had the resurrection ferns awake in their full glory. So, at the end of the day, I took a drive to Live Oak Plantation Road to take some photographs of the giant live oak trees on the road, which I had been wanting to photograph for some time. After I had been shooting for a bit, the rain began again, ending the photo shoot.

I didn’t feel that I had sufficiently photographed the area, so I returned the following day. Again, I parked and walked along the side of the road to find a composition. Luckily, it didn’t rain on me and, in between the traffic, I was able to photograph the opposing angle to the image I had created the day before.

In the final image, a white fence leads to the southern live oak trees that tower over Live Oak Plantation Road. Their long limbs are adorned with resurrection ferns, which add to the green of their canopy over the road. Grey Spanish moss also hangs from their limbs, most of which seem to lean away from the road, like ballerinas performing a cambré.
