Dr. Thomas Kent

T.K. Wetherell (1945-2018)

By Scott Holstein

This past February, I had the pleasure of creating environmental portraits of Dr. Thomas Kent “T.K.” and Virginia “Ginger” Wetherell on their farm in Lamont, Florida. T.K. was president emeritus of Florida State University (and an alumnus), former president of Tallahassee Community College, and a former House Speaker in Florida’s House of Representatives. Ginger is a former state legislator and lobbyist.  I photographed the Wetherells alongside the winding, white fence in front of their home near Tallahassee, Florida. They were flanked by beautiful, Spanish moss-draped live oak trees. T.K. and Ginger were very kind during our photography session together and…

Alaqua Animal Refuge Featured in TV Series on Nat Geo Wild

By Scott Holstein

Alaqua Animal Refuge and its founder, Laurie Hood, will be featured in a new television series on National Geographic’s network, Nat Geo Wild, along with Walton County Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigator Breezy Adkinson. The series, “Animal PD,” premieres on April 14th at 9:00PM. Read more about the show in the Northwest Florida Daily News. About the photo:Placing the subjects in the shade gave me easier control over the lighting than if they were in direct sunlight. A large octa softbox at camera-right provided a soft boost of light. If no shade is available, sometimes a large softbox can both shade…

Wayne Rogers (1933-2015)

By Scott Holstein

Wayne Rogers has passed away. He was an actor most known for playing Captain “Trapper” John McIntyre on the M*A*S*H television show of the 1970s. Also an investor, Rogers was more recently a regular panelist on the Fox News Channel show, Cashin’ In. I took portraits of Rogers several years ago for a cover story in Emerald Coast magazine written by Scott Jackson. I photographed Rogers at his beach condo in Destin, Florida, during Jackson’s interview. He was kind and laid back, giving us plenty of time to complete the interview and get the photos we needed, and he even…

Photographing Tony Hale in Tallahassee, Florida

By Scott Holstein

I had the opportunity to work with Tallahassee’s Emmy Award-winning actor, Tony Hale, when he visited home recently. Hale is known for playing Buster Bluth on the Fox comedy series Arrested Development and for playing Gary Walsh on the HBO comedy series Veep.

Portraits of Florida Governor Rick Scott

By Scott Holstein

When 850 business magazine was launched in 2008, I photographed then-Florida Governor Charlie Crist in his office at the Capitol in Tallahassee for the cover of the inaugural issue. As the magazine recently celebrated its fifth anniversary, I had the opportunity to photograph current Florida Gov. Rick Scott on location at the Governor’s Mansion for the cover story of that issue of 850.

Merry Christmas from Scott Holstein Photography!

By Scott Holstein

Merry Christmas from professional photographer Scott Holstein! I landscape photos of this single Christmas tree shining with lights in a sea of trees on a tree farm in Havana, Florida for the cover of Tallahassee magazine. After I picked the best tree and chose my composition, creative director Larry Davidson and designer Saige Roberts styled it by decorating it with Christmas lights powered by a generator that we hauled on location. I shot at dusk to get a proper exposure so the glow of the Christmas lights stood out in relation to the darker, unlit evergreens in the foreground and…
